A practical introduction to mental health awareness in adult social care, designed to help frontline staff recognise signs of mental health difficulties, provide compassionate support, and respond appropriately to concerns. This course explores common mental health challenges, trauma, stigma, supportive communication, escalation pathways and self-care, equipping learners with the confidence to support both people receiving care and colleagues experiencing mental health difficulties.

When you’ve completed this 30 minute module you will be able to:

  • Recognise common signs of mental health challenges in people receiving care and colleagues, including changes from a person’s usual baseline
  • Understand common mental health experiences including anxiety, depression, trauma responses and basic awareness of psychosis
  • Use supportive and person-centred communication approaches when someone is experiencing mental health difficulties
  • Know when and how to seek support or escalate concerns appropriately within a social care setting
  • Understand the importance of self-care and maintaining wellbeing when working in emotionally demanding care environments
