This 30-minute e-learning course provides a basic awareness-level introduction to the principles of medication administration in adult social care. It is designed to help learners understand key responsibilities, safe practice considerations and the importance of following organisational policies and procedures.
Completion of this module does not make a person competent to safely administer medication. Learners must receive role-specific training, follow their organisation’s medication policy and have their competency assessed by an appropriate person before administering medication independently.
By the end of this module, learners will be able to:
- Understand the legal responsibilities and safe practices for medication administration, including the 10 Rs and documentation requirements
- Recognise different types of medications, their routes of administration, and how to support people to take their medications safely
- Identify and respond to medication errors, side effects, and know when to seek help from healthcare professionals.
