Build the knowledge and confidence to recognise workplace risks, work safely and understand your health and safety responsibilities in adult social care.

This interactive module provides essential health and safety knowledge for people working across adult social care. It helps learners understand how health and safety applies to their day-to-day role, recognise common workplace hazards and take appropriate action to reduce risks to themselves, their colleagues and the people they support.

Rather than relying on generic workplace examples, the course uses realistic scenarios specifically designed around adult social care roles and settings. Learners can apply health and safety principles to situations they may encounter in practice, reflect on their own ways of working and build confidence in making safe decisions.

Throughout the module, you’ll explore:

  • key health and safety law, legislation and responsibilities
  • how to identify common workplace hazards and the risks they pose
  • dynamic risk assessment and how to respond when circumstances change
  • lone working and workplace security
  • how to prevent accidents, injuries and work-related harm
  • what to do in the event of an accident or sudden illness
  • incident reporting and why it matters
  • how everyone can contribute to a positive culture of health and safety.

The module covers relevant legislation and guidance, including the Health and Safety at Work Act 1974, COSHH, and RIDDOR, alongside relevant requirements under the Health and Social Care Act 2008 (Regulated Activities) Regulations 2014.

By the end of the module, learners will be better equipped to recognise health and safety hazards, understand their responsibilities for maintaining a safe working environment and adopt appropriate practices to help prevent accidents, injuries and work-related harm.

This module is also available as part of our Statutory and mandatory training (part 1) bundle.

Who is it for?

Everyone working in adult social care. Health and safety is a collective responsibility, so the learning applies to different roles across the sector. Moving and handling is not covered, and separate training is recommended where appropriate.
